Hytale WorldGen V2 Portal: Slikey Confirms Old Worlds Get a Portal Into a V2 World Instead of a Wipe, and Everything That Answer Still Leaves Open
Von HytaleCharts TeamKategorie: news:minuten min gelesen
Do you need to reset your Hytale world before WorldGen V2 arrives? As of 21 September 2026 the answer from Hytale co-founder and Tech Director Slikey is no: old-generation worlds are getting a portal into a V2 world, and you can move between them. That one-word "yes" is the first confirmation of its kind, because the portal appears nowhere in the official WorldGen V2 Community Spotlight or in The Future of World Generation. This article lays out the full reply chain with timestamps, separates what the Tech Director actually confirmed from the second-hand detail wrapped inside the post he affirmed, and is blunt about the long list of things still unknown. It also flags the risk that is real today and has nothing to do with V2: the Update 7 Part 3 pre-release already contains a one-way world format change, so a world you load on that build cannot be opened on an older server again. If you are starting a forever world this week, the portal is the good news and the BlockSection version bump is the part that should change how you handle backups.
Hytale co-founder and Tech Director Slikey has confirmed that worlds running the old world generation will get a portal into a WorldGen V2 world. He confirmed it in one word, on 21 September 2026, at the end of a three-post chain that started with a server owner asking whether it was safe to start a long-term world now.
For anyone maintaining a persistent Hytale world, that is the most useful sentence published all month. It is also a confirmation with sharp edges, because of exactly what Slikey was confirming. This article walks the chain post by post, marks the line between what the Tech Director stated and what he affirmed second hand, and then deals with the risk that is live on your server today regardless.
What Slikey Actually Confirmed About the Hytale WorldGen V2 Portal
On 21 September 2026 at 12:57:19 UTC, Slikey replied:
yes
That is the whole reply. To know what it means you have to read what it answered, and what that answered in turn.
The immediate parent was posted by @LoonBowHytale on 21 September 2026 at 10:53:55 UTC, asking:
can you confirm this
And "this" was a post by @GabiYamaoka, display name Gabriella, from 21 hours earlier, on 20 September 2026 at 13:49:34 UTC, written in Portuguese. The original reads:
Our working translation, clearly labelled as a translation and not as a statement from the Hytale team: someone from the team replied a while back that a portal will be released for old-generation worlds that takes the player to a world generated in v2, so you can move between the two; it seems some items cannot be taken from one to the other, but they gave no details.
So the shape of it is this. A community member summarised something she remembered a team member saying. Another asked the Tech Director to confirm that summary. He said yes.
That is a real confirmation and should be treated as one. Slikey is a co-founder and the Tech Director, the summary was short and specific, and he affirmed it without qualification. The portal between old-generation worlds and a WorldGen V2 world is confirmed.
It is not, however, a fresh first-party statement with details attached. The item-transfer caveat exists only as "as described in the post Slikey affirmed". The original post itself says the team gave no details, so affirming it confirms that a limitation was mentioned, not what the limitation is. Nobody has published a list, a rule, or an example.
Why Hytale Server Owners Keep Asking If They Need to Reset Their World
The chain began with a question that has been asked in some form every week since WorldGen V2 was first shown. On 20 September 2026 at 12:19:31 UTC, @LoonBowHytale, display name LoonBow @Hylamity, wrote:
Hey @Simon_Hypixel, will it be possible to start a forever world now, and later reset/regenerate chunks so new features like WorldGen V2, new biomes, and structures can generate? I'd love to start a long-term world now without having to restart it later.
#hytale
Read that carefully, because it is not quite the question the answer addressed. LoonBow asked about resetting or regenerating chunks inside an existing world so new biomes and structures could appear in place. What came back describes a portal to a separate world. Those are different solutions to the same anxiety, and nothing published says chunk regeneration inside an old world is on the table.
The anxiety itself is easy to explain. A world you have built on for months is not a save file, it is labour: base builds, terrain edits, player plots, shop districts, spawn infrastructure, and on a multiplayer server all of it belongs to people who will notice if it disappears. "We are wiping for the new world gen" is the announcement that empties a server, and every owner running a Hytale world right now has been quietly budgeting for the possibility of making it.
We wrote about this problem on 6 August in Hytale WorldGen V1 vs V2: What Happens to the World You Already Built, and that piece could not give an answer, because at the time there was not one. It laid out why old chunks stay old, the seams you get where generation versions meet, and the options owners were weighing. What it did not contain, because nothing public did, was any mention of a portal. Slikey's reply is the missing half of that article.
The Hytale WorldGen V2 Portal Has Never Appeared in an Official Blog Post
This is worth stating plainly, because it explains why a one-word reply is news.
We checked the two official Hytale posts that would carry it. The word "portal" appears zero times in the WorldGen V2 Community Spotlight published in July 2026, and zero times in "The Future of World Generation" from January 2026. Neither post describes a migration path for existing worlds at all.
Our own coverage of how V2 was being built up, including the mod-side work that has been running alongside it, is in Hytale Procedural World Generation Mods and WorldGen V2, and the wider Chapter 1 picture that V2 sits inside is in Hytale Chapter 1 First Look. In neither case did the official material offer a portal. The only public confirmation that one exists is the reply chain above.
What a Portal Between Old Gen and WorldGen V2 Worlds Would Mean in Practice
Be aware that this section reasons from the confirmed shape of the feature. The shape is confirmed. The implementation is not described anywhere, so treat the implications as implications.
A portal, rather than an in-place chunk regeneration, means the two generations live side by side instead of one overwriting the other. That has consequences.
Your build survives untouched. Nothing about a portal requires rewriting terrain you already have. The old world stays exactly as it is, seams and all, because V2 terrain is somewhere else.
No boundary seam problem. The ugly part of any in-place upgrade is the visible cliff where old chunks meet new ones. A portal sidesteps that entirely by never putting the two generations next to each other.
Two worlds to administer, not one. A second world means a second set of claims, permissions, backups, spawn rules, moderation coverage and plugin configuration: operational work an in-place upgrade would not have created.
Item transfer becomes a balance surface. Once players can walk between two worlds, anything they can carry across is an economy question. The affirmed post says some items cannot make the trip. That is consistent with a team thinking about exactly this, and it is the single most likely place for server-side configuration to eventually exist.
Player attention splits. On a populated server, a new world with new biomes and structures will pull people out of the old one. That is a community problem rather than a technical one, and it is easier to plan for before the portal exists.
None of that is a complaint. A portal is probably the best available answer to a hard problem, and it is a far better one than a wipe. It is just not free.
What Is Still Unknown About the Hytale WorldGen V2 Portal
This list is longer than the confirmed part, and pretending otherwise would not help anyone planning a server.
When it ships. No date has been given. Not a month, not a quarter, not a window.
Which update it lands in. No update number has been attached to it by anyone. It is not in the Update 7 pre-release notes.
Which items cannot transfer. The affirmed post explicitly says no details were given. There is no list, no category, no rule.
Why some items cannot transfer. Balance, technical constraint, progression gating, or something else entirely. Unstated.
Whether it is per-world or per-server. Whether one old world gets one paired V2 world, whether a server can have several, and how that interacts with multiple worlds on one instance: all unknown.
Whether server owners can configure it. Whether the portal can be disabled, placed, restricted by permission, or have its item rules edited is not addressed anywhere public.
Whether the V2 world is persistent or regenerable. Nothing says whether the linked world is a permanent save or something that can be reset.
Whether chunk regeneration in old worlds is also coming. That was LoonBow's actual question. The portal answer does not confirm it, and nothing else does either.
Whether singleplayer and dedicated servers behave the same. Not stated.
If you see any of those specifics stated confidently elsewhere, check the source. As of 22 September 2026 the public record is: a portal exists, you can move between the two worlds, and some items cannot come with you.
The Real Risk Right Now Is the Update 7 Part 3 World Format Change
Here is the part that matters most if you are acting on any of this today, and it has nothing to do with WorldGen V2.
The living pre-release patch notes page for Update 7 currently carries exactly three sections: Pre-Release (Update 7 Part 3) dated September 17, 2026, Part 2 dated September 10, and Part 1 dated September 3. There is no Part 4 yet. In the Part 3 notes, under "For Plugin Developers", is this:
Cubic worlds now use a new tree heightmap, and BlockSection blobs moved to version 7. Older servers cannot read those blobs, so a world loaded on this version cannot be opened on an older one.
Read the last clause again. A world loaded on this version cannot be opened on an older one. That is a one-way door, it is already shipped in the pre-release, and it exists independently of everything discussed above. We covered the full Part 3 notes in our Update 7 Part 3 pre-release breakdown.
So the honest answer to "can I start a forever world now" is two-sided. The portal means WorldGen V2 probably will not force you to abandon that world. The BlockSection bump means that if you load it on the pre-release build even once, you have moved it forward permanently and cannot roll the server back to a stable release with that save. The second risk is live today.
A Backup Checklist Before You Load a World on a Pre-Release Build
Stop the server cleanly first. Copy from a stopped server, never from a running one. A world copied mid-write is a world you will discover is broken at the worst possible moment.
Copy the whole world directory, not just the region data. Player data, level metadata and plugin-owned world files all matter on restore.
Keep the pre-pre-release copy separately and permanently. Label it with the server version it was last opened on. That copy is your only route back to an older server binary.
Check where the pre-release actually writes. Pre-release and release builds do not necessarily share data folders, which trips people up when worlds and mods appear to vanish. We went through this in Hytale pre-release worlds and mods in missing patchline folders.
Verify the backup restores. An untested backup is a guess. Restore it onto a scratch instance once and confirm it boots.
Know your recovery path before you need it. Our Hytale server crash recovery and config guide covers the steps that are easier to read now than at 2am.
Simon Collins-Laflamme Confirms the Live Build Still Runs the Old World Gen
The portal reply did not arrive in isolation. Hours later on the same day, co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme posted a line that explains why the portal is needed at all.
On 21 September 2026 at 16:21:17 UTC, @dallasmed65 wrote:
I gotta say, I'm so stoked for Hytale Chapter 1. I've been patiently waiting since the early release and I just checked out what they're adding in chapter 1... it's gonna be a whole new game in some respect.
At 17:55:48 UTC, Simon replied:
we are still "stuck" with the early game and old world gen, but its getting there, the vision is ramping up
The quotation marks around "stuck" are his. Two things follow from that sentence, both useful.
First, the CEO is confirming on the record that what players are running today is the old world generation. Every world anyone has built in Hytale so far is an old-gen world. That is not a small population of legacy saves, it is all of them, which is precisely why a migration answer matters more here than it would for most games.
Second, "its getting there" and "the vision is ramping up" are progress language with no date in them, consistent with a portal that is planned and not yet scheduled. Nobody has said the two statements are connected, and we are not claiming they are.
What To Do If You Run a Persistent Hytale Server Right Now
Practical reading of everything above, for owners who have to make decisions this week.
You can start a long-term world. The Tech Director has confirmed a portal rather than a wipe. That is the answer LoonBow was looking for, and it is the answer the 6 August article could not give.
Do not plan on in-place chunk regeneration. A portal to a second world is what was confirmed. Regenerating old chunks so new biomes appear in place remains unconfirmed, so do not design your world layout around it.
Leave room for a second world in your admin setup. If a paired V2 world is coming, your permission system, claim plugin, backup rotation and moderation coverage will all need to cover it. Check now whether the tools you rely on handle multiple worlds cleanly.
Do not design an economy that assumes free item transfer. Some items will not cross. Until anyone says which, a currency or progression design that assumes full portability is an unnecessary bet.
Treat the pre-release as one-way for worlds. This is the concrete risk. Back up before loading anything on Part 3 or later, and keep the older copy.
Communicate the uncertainty to your players honestly. "No wipe is planned, a portal is confirmed, no date" is a message that ages well. "The new world gen is coming next update" is a message you will have to walk back.
Watch the documentation, not just the notes. Version information has moved ahead of published patch notes before, which we wrote about in the 0.6.8 docs version with no patch notes. Documentation sometimes tells you where the build is going before the blog does.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to reset my Hytale world for WorldGen V2?
Based on Slikey's confirmation on 21 September 2026, no. He confirmed that worlds on the old world generation will get a portal leading into a world generated with WorldGen V2, and that players can move between the two. No wipe, reset or restart has been announced for existing worlds.
Will Hytale wipe worlds when WorldGen V2 arrives?
Nothing public says so, and the confirmed plan points the other way. The Tech Director affirmed a portal between an old-generation world and a V2 world. That design exists precisely so that old worlds do not need to be discarded.
What exactly did Slikey confirm about the WorldGen V2 portal?
He replied "yes" on 21 September 2026 at 12:57:19 UTC to a request to confirm a community member's summary. That summary said a portal will be released for old-generation worlds that takes the player to a world generated in v2, so you can move between the two, and that it seems some items cannot be taken from one to the other, with no details given. The portal is confirmed by the Tech Director. The item restriction is confirmed only in the sense that he affirmed a post which itself says no details were provided.
When is the Hytale WorldGen V2 portal coming?
Unknown. No date, no update number and no window has been given by anyone. It does not appear in the Update 7 pre-release patch notes, and the current pre-release page tops out at Part 3 from 17 September 2026.
Which items cannot go through the WorldGen V2 portal?
Unknown. The post Slikey affirmed states directly that the team gave no details. No list, category or rule has been published, and inventing one would be guesswork.
Can I regenerate chunks in my existing Hytale world so new biomes appear?
That was the original question asked on 20 September 2026, and it has not been confirmed. The answer that arrived describes a portal to a separate V2 world, which is a different mechanism. In-place chunk regeneration remains unannounced.
Is it safe to start a Hytale forever world right now?
From a WorldGen V2 standpoint, the portal confirmation makes it far safer than it looked a week ago. The live risk is different: the Update 7 Part 3 pre-release notes state that "Cubic worlds now use a new tree heightmap, and BlockSection blobs moved to version 7. Older servers cannot read those blobs, so a world loaded on this version cannot be opened on an older one." Back up before loading a world on a pre-release build, and keep that backup.
Is Hytale still running the old world generation?
Yes. On 21 September 2026 co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme described the situation in his own words: we are still "stuck" with the early game and old world gen, but its getting there, the vision is ramping up. That is his exact phrasing, quotation marks around the word stuck included. Every world built in Hytale so far is an old-generation world.
Has Hytale mentioned the portal in an official blog post?
No. The word "portal" appears zero times in the official WorldGen V2 Community Spotlight and zero times in "The Future of World Generation". Slikey's reply is the confirmation, and it is the only public one.
The Bottom Line
One word from the Tech Director resolved the question server owners have been asking since WorldGen V2 was first shown. Worlds on the old generation are getting a portal into a V2 world, not a wipe notice. If you have been holding off on starting something long-term, that hold is over.
What has not changed is how much is still unspecified. No date, no update, no item list, no word on whether any of it is configurable, and no confirmation that chunks in an existing world will ever regenerate in place. The destination is confirmed. The route is not.
And the risk that should actually change your behaviour this week is the one already in the pre-release notes. A world loaded on Update 7 Part 3 cannot be opened on an older server. Back it up, label the backup with the version it came from, and test that it restores. The portal will arrive when it arrives. Your save file is your responsibility today.
