Hytale's Memories system is the core progression mechanic. Collect memories by exploring, fighting, crafting, and completing challenges. Feed them to the Heart of Orbis to unlock permanent rewards. This guide explains everything.

Hytale's progression doesn't follow the typical XP and levels formula. Instead, it uses a system called Memories, where your actions in the world generate collectible memory fragments. These fragments feed into the Heart of Orbis, a central progression device that unlocks permanent rewards as you fill it. What Are Memories? Memories are Hytale's version of experience and achievements combined. Nearly everything you do generates memories: Exploration memories: Discovering new zones, biomes, landmarks, and dungeons Combat memories: Defeating enemies, surviving boss fights, using signature abilities Crafting memories: Creating items for the first time, upgrading stations, completing recipe collections Social memories: Trading with NPCs, completing faction quests, taming animals Lore memories: Finding hidden lore items, reading ancient texts, uncovering story fragments Each memory has a category tied to the activity that created it. These categories matter because different Heart of Orbis branches consume different memory types. The Heart of Orbis The Heart of Orbis is your progression hub. Think of it as a skill tree powered by memories instead of XP. It appears as a glowing crystalline structure that you carry with you (accessed through a menu, not placed in the world).
