Hytale Ore & Material Progression: Mining Tiers from Copper to Mythril

By HytaleCharts Team Category: guides 4 min read

Hytale features 10 ores and 7 gem types across increasingly challenging zones and depths. This guide maps out the full material progression, mining requirements, and what gear each tier unlocks.

Every piece of gear you craft depends on the materials you gather. In Hytale, ores follow a clear progression path: each tier is found deeper underground or in more dangerous zones, and each tier produces significantly stronger equipment than the last. Found abundantly near the surface in Zone 1. Copper tools and armor are a significant upgrade over wood and stone. Appearance: Green-tinged stone with metallic flecks Smelting: 1 Copper Ore → 1 Copper Ingot (in Furnace) Key recipes: Copper Pickaxe, Copper Sword, Copper Armor Set Iron (Tier 2) The backbone material for mid-early game. Stronger than copper with noticeably better durability. Found deeper in Zone 1 caves. Appearance: Dark brown ore with reddish streaks Smelting: 1 Iron Ore → 1 Iron Ingot (in Furnace) Key recipes: Iron tools (all types), Iron Armor Set, Anvil, Chains, Shields Gold (Tier 3) Found primarily in Zone 2 desert caves. Gold is unique because while it makes decent weapons, it excels in jewelry and magical accessories at the Jeweler's Table. Appearance: Bright yellow-gold veins in sandstone Smelting: 1 Gold Ore → 1 Gold Ingot (in Furnace) Key recipes: Gold weapons, rings, amulets, decorative blocks, Enchanting Table components Cobalt (Tier 4) A blue-hued metal found in Zone 2 at greater depths. Cobalt gear is the gateway to true mid-game power. Appearance: Deep blue crystalline ore Smelting: 1 Cobalt Ore → 1 Cobalt Ingot (in Furnace) Key recipes: Cobalt weapons, Cobalt Armor Set Thorium (Tier 5) The first "advanced" ore that requires a Forge (upgraded Furnace) to smelt. Found in Zone 3's frozen caves. Thorium represents a major power jump. Appearance: Pale silver with faint purple glow Smelting: 1 Thorium Ore → 1 Thorium Ingot (in Forge) Key recipes: Thorium weapons and armor, Thorium Pickaxe (needed for higher ores) Adamantite (Tier 6) Found deep within the Devastated Lands. Mining it is dangerous due to hostile mobs and lava. Adamantite gear is near end-game quality. Appearance: Dark red ore with glowing ember particles Smelting: 1 Adamantite Ore → 1 Adamantite Ingot (in Forge) Key recipes: Adamantite weapons and armor Mythril (Tier 7) The rarest standard ore. Found only in the deepest caves of Zone 4. Mythril gear is the strongest non-magical equipment available and is required for crafting at the Runic Forge. Appearance: Luminous teal-blue ore, glows faintly Smelting: 1 Mythril Ore → 1 Mythril Ingot (in Forge) Key recipes: Mythril weapons and armor, Runic Forge components Gems Gems are found alongside ores but serve a different purpose. They're primarily used at the Jeweler's Table for accessories and at the Enchanting Table for magical enhancements.
