Hytale Farming Guide: Crops, Seeds, Animal Husbandry & the Farming Bench

By HytaleCharts Team Category: guides 3 min read

From planting your first seeds to building an automated farm with eternal seeds and animal products, this guide covers every aspect of Hytale's farming system including crops, growth stages, and the farming bench.

A good farm in Hytale solves two problems at once: you'll never run out of food, and you'll have a steady supply of crafting materials. Farming starts simple (dig, plant, water) but grows into a deep system with crop rotation, eternal seeds, and animal products. Getting Started What You Need Hoe (crafted at a Workbench): Tills grass or dirt into farmland Seeds: Obtained by breaking tall grass, harvesting wild crops, or buying from NPCs Watering Can (crafted at Farming Bench): Speeds up growth Farmland: Any tilled dirt block near a water source Basic Farming Steps Use your hoe on dirt or grass blocks to create farmland Place seeds on the tilled soil Water with a watering can (or place farmland within 4 blocks of water) Wait for the crop to grow through its stages Harvest when fully grown Crop Types & Growth Each crop has multiple growth stages, visible as the plant model changes over time. Growth speed depends on water access, sunlight, and optional fertilizer. Eternal seeds are rare drops from fully grown crops that, when planted, never need replanting after harvest. Drop rate: ~5% chance from any fully grown crop at harvest Appearance: Golden glow around the seed item Behavior: After harvesting an eternal crop, it automatically resets to stage 1 and begins growing again Stacking: Eternal seeds do not stack with regular seeds Tip: Eternal seeds are one of the most valuable items for long-term farming. Once you have a full field of eternal crops, you never need to replant. Prioritize saving them. The Farming Bench The Farming Bench unlocks advanced farming tools and equipment. Build it with 8 Wood Planks and 2 Iron Ingots. Scarecrow: Prevents birds from eating crops in a radius Sprinkler: Auto-waters nearby farmland (requires water source connection) Compost Bin: Converts plant waste into fertilizer for faster growth Food Trough: Auto-feeds tamed animals in an area Seed Bag: Plants multiple seeds at once in a row Animal Husbandry Farm animals provide renewable resources without needing to hunt. Tame the animals first (see the Taming Guide), then set up enclosures.
