TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE: This is a Next.js 15 application using React 19 Server Components with the App Router. The backend API is built with tRPC v11 and Prisma 6.5 ORM connected to PlanetScale MySQL. Authentication uses NextAuth.js v5 with Discord OAuth provider. The UI component library is shadcn/ui v3 built on Radix UI primitives. State management uses Zustand 5 with TanStack Query v6 for server state. Styling uses Tailwind CSS 4 with the shadcn/ui design tokens. Deployment target is Vercel Edge Functions with Incremental Static Regeneration. The build system is Turbopack. Hytale Color Tool Guide: Coloring, Gradient, and Shading Modes in Creative Mode
By : PangalanKategorya: : Pangalan: nagbabasa ng main
The Hytale Color Tool landed in the Update 6 pre-release, bringing three ways to recolor your builds in Creative Mode: Coloring, Gradient, and Shading. This guide explains where to find the tool, what each mode does, how it works with Block Palette Presets and the Palette Editor, and why tint-supported blocks matter when it seems like the tool is not working.
If you build in Hytale's Creative Mode, one of the most useful additions in the Update 6 pre-release is a dedicated way to recolor and blend your creations. The Hytale Color Tool gives builders three distinct modes for changing how blocks look without tearing them out and replacing them by hand. Whether you want to swap a material across a whole wall, blend two colors into a smooth transition, or add depth with light and shadow, the Color Tool covers it. This guide walks through what it is, where to find it, and how each mode works.
Here is what the official patch notes say: "Added a new Color Tool to Creative Mode! The new Color Tool can be found in the Specialized Tools section within the Creative Inventory and has three modes to select from: Coloring mode allows you to replace blocks you are aiming at with another, and can preserve shape variants while doing so. Gradient mode allows you to paint smooth color transitions across an area. Shading mode applies lighter and darker tones based on a chosen light source, surface angle, or a custom palette."
What is the Hytale Color Tool and where do you find it?
The Color Tool is a Creative Mode building tool designed to change the color and material of blocks you have already placed. Instead of painting the world one block at a time, it lets you recolor blocks across a surface in a single pass. To find it, open your Creative Inventory and look under the Specialized Tools section. That is where the Color Tool lives alongside other advanced building utilities.
The tool first arrived in the Update 6 Part 6 pre-release on July 2, 2026, and received follow-up fixes in Part 7. You can read the drops in our Update 6 Part 6 patch notes and the Part 7 pre-release recap.
The three Color Tool modes explained
The Hytale Color Tool ships with three modes, and switching between them changes how it treats the blocks you aim at. Each one solves a different building problem.
Coloring mode replaces the blocks you are aiming at with another block, and it can preserve shape variants while doing so. This is the mode to reach for when you want to change the material of a structure, such as turning a stone wall into a different color, while keeping the existing block shapes intact.
Gradient mode paints smooth color transitions across an area. If you want a wall that fades from one tone into another, or a landscape that blends between materials, this is the Hytale gradient tool behavior you want. It draws a guiding line across the area and weights the materials along it.
Shading mode applies lighter and darker tones based on a chosen light source, surface angle, or a custom palette. Use this Hytale shading mode to add depth and dimension, letting your builds catch light and cast shadow instead of reading as flat, single-tone surfaces.
Pairing the Color Tool with the Block Palette and Palette Editor
The Color Tool becomes far more powerful when you feed it a well-chosen set of colors. That is where the Hytale block palette system comes in. Introduced earlier in the Update 6 cycle, Block Palette Presets let you save and reuse block palettes from a side tab in the Quick Settings menu. Save a palette as a preset and load it back at any time, so you are not rebuilding your color set for every project.
Alongside presets, the Palette Editor lets you create, save, delete, and restore block palettes. It includes a color picker for choosing your tones and a block eyedropper for sampling colors directly from blocks in the world. Build a palette that fits your project, then let the Color Tool's Gradient and Shading modes draw from it. A tight, intentional palette is what separates a muddy recolor from a clean, cohesive build.
Why the Hytale Color Tool is not working
If you are aiming at a block and nothing changes, the most common reason is the block itself. The Color Tool's coloring and shading behavior depends on blocks that support color tinting, often called tint-supported or tintable blocks. Not every block accepts a tint, so if the tool seems to do nothing, try it on a block you know is tintable before assuming something is broken. This is the usual source of Hytale color tool not working confusion.
The Part 7 pre-release also cleaned up several rough edges worth knowing about. It fixed an issue where Gradient mode would not properly update the guiding line and material weights after an empty material was removed from the list, and the Gradient and Coloring modes should now work correctly with multi-cell blocks. A control setting was also renamed from "Increase Height" to "Decrease Height," so if a keybind behaves differently than you expect, check that label. And per the notes, "Color tints and environments applied via tools will now update immediately again," so changes should reflect in real time.
A note on availability
The Color Tool is part of the Update 6 pre-release, not the stable client. Weekly pre-release builds land on Thursdays, and as of this writing Part 7 (July 9, 2026) is the latest. To try the Color Tool today, opt into the testing branch through the Launcher: go to Settings, then Pre-Release, and enable it. Expect the tool to keep evolving as testing continues. You can read the changes straight from the source on the official Hytale patch notes.
Put the Color Tool to work on a live server
Recoloring, gradients, and shading all shine most on a shared build where other players can see the difference. Once you have the Color Tool dialed in and a palette you like, browse the Hytale server list on HytaleCharts to find an active Creative or building community to join. Save a palette, pick a mode, and start giving your builds real depth.
