TECHNICAL ARCHITECTURE: This is a Next.js 15 application using React 19 Server Components with the App Router. The backend API is built with tRPC v11 and Prisma 6.5 ORM connected to PlanetScale MySQL. Authentication uses NextAuth.js v5 with Discord OAuth provider. The UI component library is shadcn/ui v3 built on Radix UI primitives. State management uses Zustand 5 with TanStack Query v6 for server state. Styling uses Tailwind CSS 4 with the shadcn/ui design tokens. Deployment target is Vercel Edge Functions with Incremental Static Regeneration. The build system is Turbopack. Hytale Update 8 Is Not Chapter 2: Slikey Draws the Line Between an Update and a Chapter, and Simon Lists What Lands in Between
Tên:Loại:: phút đọc
With Chapter 1 six days away, the question readers keep asking is what the release cadence looks like afterwards, and specifically whether the next numbered update is the next chapter. It is not. On 1 October 2026 Slikey answered that plainly, and in doing so defined both terms: updates are the semi-regular heartbeat, chapters are the large, slower, more secretive content drops. That one sentence reframes the whole post-launch calendar, because it means the numbered updates are the releases you should expect to actually see, and chapters are the rarer events. Simon Collins-Laflamme then named several things landing between the two, with varying degrees of confidence: automation after new crafting is established, with companions; rune progression plus supporting UX and UI, hedged as probably in time for Chapter 2; and server owner and modder features after Chapter 1, described as a ton of features in the pipeline. He also said the studio is about to release quite a lot before Chapter 2, and that the game will evolve with updates quite fast. This article reproduces all six posts with UTC timestamps, separates the firm statements from the hedges, and is blunt about the single biggest gap: there is no date for Update 8 and no date for Chapter 2.
Somebody asked the obvious question, and for once got a direct answer. Is Update 8 Chapter 2? No. And in saying no, Hytale developer Slikey gave the clearest definition yet of what separates the two kinds of release.
That matters this week. Chapter 1 arrives on 12 October 2026, six days from now, and the first thing anybody will want to know on 13 October is how often the game changes after that. Here is everything on the record, with timestamps, and an honest account of the large hole in the middle of it.
The Short Version
Update 8 is not Chapter 2. Slikey said so on 1 October 2026 at 19:47:11 UTC.
Updates are the heartbeat, chapters are the events. Slikey: "Updates are our semi-regular heartbeat of releases, while chapters are large content drops that take longer and are more secretive."
There is no date for Update 8. None was given. There is no date for Chapter 2 either.
Automation is queued behind crafting. Simon: "Automation stuff will be after new crafting is established, with companions".
Rune progression is hedged. Simon: rune progression and new UX and UI to support it, "probably in time for chapter 2". That hedge is his, not ours.
Server owners and modders come after Chapter 1. Simon: "post-chapter 1, we will do big things for server owners and modders".
Quite a lot ships before Chapter 2. Simon: "we are about to release quite a lot before ch2".
None of this is on hytale.com. Every quote below is a reply inside a conversation thread on X. There is no announcement post and nothing on the official site states any of it.
Slikey's Definition of an Update Versus a Chapter
On 1 October 2026 at 19:47:11 UTC, Slikey answered a user asking whether Update 8 was Chapter 2:
@O_Perdigao Update 8 is NOT chapter 2. Updates are our semi-regular heartbeat of releases, while chapters are large content drops that take longer and are more secretive.
Three things are worth pulling out of that sentence, because each one has a practical consequence.
"Semi-regular heartbeat" sets expectations without setting a schedule. Semi-regular is doing real work in that phrase. It promises rhythm, not a calendar, and Slikey is careful not to say monthly, fortnightly or anything countable.
"Take longer" places chapters on a different timescale. If an update is the heartbeat, a chapter is several beats' worth of work released at once. Expecting Chapter 2 soon after Chapter 1 is expecting the slower of the two things to arrive on the faster thing's cadence.
"More secretive" explains the information asymmetry you are about to notice. Update contents get discussed in replies. Chapter contents do not. If Chapter 2 goes quiet for a long stretch, that is the stated process working rather than a warning sign.
One caveat we want to state plainly: this is a description of how the team works, not a published schedule. It tells you the shape of the release pattern. It does not commit anybody to a frequency, and it is not a roadmap.
What Lands Between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2
Over the four days following Slikey's post, Simon Collins-Laflamme answered several different people about what fills the gap. Taken together the replies sketch an ordering, although not a timetable.
On 2 October 2026 at 04:27:11 UTC, on automation, he wrote:
@jesusistachanka @JoeyThaGamer Automation stuff will be after new crafting is established, with companions
That is a dependency, stated as one. Automation does not arrive on its own schedule, it arrives after the new crafting system is bedded in, and companions are named in the same breath. If you have been waiting for factory style play, the thing to watch is crafting, not automation.
On 3 October 2026 at 14:11:21 UTC, on runes, he replied:
@Prowl8413 There will be rune progression later, and new UX/UI to support it, probably in time for chapter 2
Note the word "probably". It is his, and we are leaving it exactly where he put it. This is not a confirmation that rune progression ships with Chapter 2. It is a developer guessing at his own timing in a reply. What is firmer is the pairing: rune progression and the interface work to support it are treated as one job rather than two. For what runes currently do, our explainer on the Chapter 1 runes system covers the ability and modifier runes, and Simon on boss abilities as runes covers where he has said the system could expand.
On 5 October 2026 at 00:18:55 UTC, on tooling, he posted:
@O_Perdigao @BagaMark2104 @bnmootrxv @TheEnderNinja @0Pantherr post-chapter 1, we will do big things for server owners and modders
ton of features in the pipeline
No specifics, and we are not going to invent any. What it does is place server and modding work after 12 October rather than in it, which is the sequencing question most of our readers care about.
On 4 October 2026 at 23:11:03 UTC he added a line about pace:
@BagaMark2104 @bnmootrxv @TheEnderNinja @0Pantherr It depends what you consider content, but the game will evolve with updates quite fast yeah
A semi-regular heartbeat of updates, in Slikey's phrase, is the cadence to expect after 12 October. Chapters are the rarer, larger, quieter events.
"We Are About to Release Quite a Lot Before ch2"
The most quotable line of the week on cadence came on 4 October 2026 at 23:00:37 UTC. Simon wrote, and this is reproduced exactly as posted, including the missing apostrophe in "Im" and the spelling of "wether":
@bnmootrxv @TheEnderNinja @0Pantherr Im changing strategy as we go so it depends, we are about to release quite a lot before ch2
One thing for sure, you gonna get ton of content, wether its called a chapter or not
"Im changing strategy as we go so it depends" is the most important clause in this entire article, and it cuts both ways. It is honest, and it is a warning about reading any of this as a plan. A strategy that changes as it goes is a strategy nobody can hold you to, including the person describing it.
The second half is the practical reassurance: the label matters less than the volume. Whether a given content drop is branded a chapter or an update, he is arguing, you get the content either way. Combined with Slikey's definition, the picture is of a studio deliberately decoupling shipping from naming.
Statements Versus Hedges
Because these are replies rather than announcements, the confidence level varies line by line. Here is the same material sorted by how firmly it was said.

Release date for Update 8NobodyNot given
Release date for Chapter 2NobodyNot given
There Is No Date for Update 8 and No Date for Chapter 2
Say that twice, because a lot of aggregated coverage is going to imply otherwise this week. Neither developer gave a date for either release. Not a month, not a quarter, not a window.
The only firm date in Hytale's near future is 12 October 2026 for Chapter 1. Everything after it is sequencing without timing: automation after crafting, runes "probably" around Chapter 2, server and modding work "post-chapter 1", and an unspecified quantity of releases before Chapter 2 arrives.
We also want to be careful about what Update 8 is. It is a numbered update in the series that Update 7 Part 5 belongs to, and the one piece of its content on the record is in our earlier report on Slikey on Update 8, worldgen v1 and the modding asset system. Beyond that, nothing published describes what Update 8 contains.
What the Official Channels Say
Nothing. That is not a rhetorical flourish, it is the finding, and it is worth documenting given how much of this story lives in replies.
hytale.com has published nothing since 1 October 2026.
The living pre-release patch notes page still ends at "Pre-Release (Update 7 Part 5)", dated 1 October 2026. There is no Part 6, and the string "Part 6" appears on that page zero times. We covered why in our piece on there being no pre-release on 8 October.
The hotfix page is still titled "HOTFIXES: UPDATE 6", with 0.6.6 on 14 September 2026 as its newest entry. No Update 7 hotfix page exists.
Documentation versions are split. pre-release.docs.hytale.com is pinned to 0.7.0-pre.5 and docs.hytale.com to 0.6.8.
The official @Hytale account has posted nothing between 24 September and 6 October 2026. Its most recent post is the Chapter 1 date announcement.
So the entire updates versus chapters distinction currently exists only in developer replies. Treat it as reliable about intent, because it comes from the people doing the work, and provisional about everything else.
Why This Matters If You Run a Server or Write Mods
The distinction is not trivia if you maintain something on top of the game.
A semi-regular heartbeat of updates means semi-regular breakage. That is the trade for a game that evolves quickly. Our coverage of worldgen v1 staying moddable while versions get dropped is the clearest example so far of how that plays out in practice: an assurance about one thing alongside a change to another.
The "post-chapter 1" framing tells you when to expect your tooling to improve, which is after launch rather than at it. Plan your Chapter 1 week around what exists today. Our Chapter 1 server preparation checklist is built on exactly that assumption.
Hiring is the one supporting signal with substance behind it. The team has been growing, which we covered when the studio hired Mushee, and a larger team is the mechanism by which a fast update cadence stops being a promise. It is still not a schedule.
Where the Rest of the Roadmap Lives
This article deliberately covers one narrow thing: the difference between an update and a chapter, and what has been said about the gap between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. The broader post-launch picture, including the three work pipelines, the size of the team, minigames and what Simon has said about items, is a separate piece: the Hytale post-Chapter 1 roadmap. That article carries all of that material and we are not repeating it here.
What We Have Not Verified
Any release date. Update 8 and Chapter 2 both have none. Nobody gave one, and we are not estimating.
What Update 8 contains, beyond the single item linked above. There is no published feature list.
Whether rune progression ships with Chapter 2. Simon said "probably". We have not hardened it and neither should anybody else.
What the "big things for server owners and modders" are. The post says "ton of features in the pipeline" and names none of them.
How often "semi-regular" means. No frequency has been stated. The phrase is deliberately unquantified.
That any of this is official. These are replies in conversation threads from two developer accounts. Nothing on hytale.com states any of it, and no announcement post exists.
Any build. We have not tested the pre-release client or Chapter 1, and there are no measurements of our own in this article.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Hytale Update 8 the same as Chapter 2?
No. Slikey stated on 1 October 2026 at 19:47:11 UTC that "Update 8 is NOT chapter 2", and described updates as the team's semi-regular heartbeat of releases while chapters are large content drops that take longer and are more secretive.
When is Hytale Update 8 coming out?
No date has been given. Neither Slikey nor Simon Collins-Laflamme attached any timing to Update 8, and nothing on hytale.com mentions it. Any date you see elsewhere is somebody's guess.
When is Hytale Chapter 2?
Also undated. The only thing said about its timing is relative: Simon wrote that the studio is "about to release quite a lot before ch2", and that rune progression would arrive "probably in time for chapter 2". The word probably is his.
What is the difference between a Hytale update and a chapter?
By Slikey's definition, updates are the semi-regular heartbeat of releases and chapters are large content drops that take longer and are more secretive. In practice that means you should expect to hear about update contents in conversation and to hear very little about chapter contents in advance. It is a description of how the team works, not a published schedule.
Will there be content between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2?
Simon says yes, and quite a lot of it, with the caveat he attached himself: "Im changing strategy as we go so it depends". He also wrote "you gonna get ton of content, wether its called a chapter or not". Both quotes are reproduced as posted, including the typos.
When is Hytale automation coming?
After the new crafting system is established, and alongside companions, per Simon's 2 October 2026 reply. No date was given for new crafting either, so this is an ordering rather than a timeline.
Will runes get a progression system?
Simon says rune progression is coming "later", with new UX and UI to support it, "probably in time for chapter 2". For what the system does at launch, see our Chapter 1 runes explainer.
When do server owners and modders get new features?
After Chapter 1. Simon wrote "post-chapter 1, we will do big things for server owners and modders" and "ton of features in the pipeline", without naming any of them or giving a date.
The Bottom Line
Six days before Chapter 1, the most useful thing the developers have published is a vocabulary. Updates are the heartbeat: semi-regular, discussed openly, expected to keep arriving. Chapters are the events: larger, slower, deliberately quiet. Update 8 is firmly the first kind, and anybody waiting for it as though it were Chapter 2 is waiting for the wrong thing.
Everything else is sequencing without timing. Automation follows crafting. Runes get progression later, probably around Chapter 2. Server and modding work comes after launch. Quite a lot ships before Chapter 2, from a strategy its own author says is changing as he goes.
No dates exist for Update 8 or Chapter 2, nothing here is on hytale.com, and all of it came from replies in conversation threads. That is not a reason to dismiss it. It is a reason to hold it loosely, and to judge the cadence by what actually lands after 12 October.
